Types of Port Cranes

Port cranes are the core equipment for port loading and unloading operations. According to their functions and structural characteristics, they are mainly divided into the following categories:
1. Shore container crane (quay crane)
Function: Specially used for container terminals to load and unload container ships, installed on the shore of port terminals.
Features: With large span and large back reach, it can be used for yard operations. The loading and unloading capacity and speed directly affect the terminal operation efficiency.
Development trend: Large-scale, high-speed, automated and intelligent. The rated lifting capacity under the spreader is increased from 30.5 tons to 65 tons, and the outreach is increased from 32 meters to 70 meters.
2. Gantry crane (gantry crane)
Function: Mainly used in bulk cargo terminals, connected to grabs or hooks through wire ropes to realize the loading and unloading of bulk cargo and piece goods.
Features: Diverse tonnage, from small 10 tons to large 40 tons or more, with a wide range of operations, suitable for bulk grain, bulk ore, steel, etc.
3. Gantry crane (yard crane)
Function: Used in the yard behind the container terminal, responsible for the orderly collection and handling of containers.
Features: The lifting tonnage is usually 41 tons, equipped with telescopic lifting equipment, can lift 20-foot and 40-foot containers, and some use remote control technology.
4. Bridge crane
Function: Suitable for sites with smaller spans, mainly used for cargo handling inside the port.
Features: Simple structure, flexible operation, suitable for loading and unloading operations in fixed areas.
5. Mobile crane
Function: Suitable for places that need to be moved frequently, such as port terminals.
Features: High flexibility, can quickly adjust the position according to the operation needs, and is often used for temporary loading and unloading tasks.
